March 12, 2020
With the increase of confirmed COVID-19 cases within the United States, many institutions have now implemented policies that restrict employees from engaging in all non-essential travel, including metropolitan areas such as Chicago. Other institutions have developed additional selfquarantine guidelines. In light of these circumstances, and in the interest of upholding its commitment to the health and well-being of our community, the ABCN Executive Committee has decided to postpone the April 2020 oral examinations. This postponement will not require a new application fee for candidates who were already scheduled to take the oral exam in April.
We recognize the frustration and inconvenience that this decision likely imposes on examiners and candidates. The ABCN Executive Committee is in process of exploring alternate times to hold the examinations and will provide more specific information regarding dates as soon as is feasible.
FAQs related to the ABCN Oral Examination Postponement (April 2020)
1. When will the oral exams originally scheduled for April take place?
ABCN is currently coordinating with examiners, observers, exam leadership, and others to identify new dates. As soon as a schedule is confirmed, candidates will be contacted with the new dates.
2. What if the new dates conflict with a prior commitment I have made?
ABCN currently has oral exam dates set for August and November, in addition to the exam that is currently being scheduled. April candidates who have a conflict with rescheduled exam dates may select to attend one of these other exam windows.
3. What do I do about the airline ticket I purchased for the April exams?
Most airlines have posted information on remedies/waivers for disrupted air travel related to the current pandemic. Please check with your carrier for options available to you. We regret that ABCN cannot provide reimbursement/compensation for travel-related costs.
4. What do I do about my hotel reservation?
Most hotels offer free cancellation 24-72 hours prior to arrival. Check with your hotel regarding specific policies and rebooking procedures.
5. Can I be examined remotely over Skype, Zoon, or other web-based platforms?
At this time, ABCN oral examinations are only conducted in-person. There are currently no policies/procedures for remote examination.
6. Will I need to pay for an additional oral examination fee if I was already scheduled to take the examination in April 2020?
No. The postponement will not require a new application fee for candidates who were already scheduled to take the oral exam in April.
