April 2020 Oral Examination Postponement

April 27, 2020

As an update to the recent postponement to the April 2020 oral examinations, the ABCN Executive Committee is in process of exploring times and dates for the summer/fall of 2020 to hold make-up examinations. In-person oral examinations will be held only at a time when the safety and well-being of our examiners, examinees, and observers can be reasonably assured.

In the interim, ABCN is exploring alternative methods of examination in the event in-person examinations are unfeasible in the months ahead. We will keep candidates apprised of our progress through updates to the ABCN website (oral examination candidates will also be notified directly if and when an alternative process is developed). We appreciate your patience and understanding during these challenging times.

With the increase of confirmed COVID-19 cases within the United States, many institutions have now implemented policies that restrict employees from engaging in all non-essential travel, including metropolitan areas such as Chicago. Other institutions have developed additional selfquarantine guidelines. In light of these circumstances, and in the interest of upholding its commitment to the health and well-being of our community, the ABCN Executive Committee has decided to postpone the April 2020 oral examinations. This postponement will not require a new application fee for candidates who were already scheduled to take the oral exam in April.

We recognize the frustration and inconvenience that this decision likely imposes on examiners and candidates. The ABCN Executive Committee is in process of exploring alternate times to hold the examinations and will provide more specific information regarding dates as soon as is feasible.
