About

Welcome! The American Board of Clinical Neuropsychology (ABCN) is a specialty board of the American Board of Professional Psychology (ABPP). The ABCN is responsible for administration of the examination for competence in the specialty of Clinical Neuropsychology. ABPP is the senior parent board for the profession of psychology and was established in 1947, with ABCN being incorporated in 1981. To learn more regarding examination procedures, please explore the website for current information and application instructions.

Candidates who pass the ABCN examination and become board certified in the specialty of Clinical Neuropsychology are invited to join the American Academy of Clinical Neuropsychology (AACN), which is the membership organization of ABCN Specialists. For a directory of members and further information regarding the AACN, please visit their website.

ABCN supports diversity in all its forms encompassing, but not limited to, age, disability status, economic circumstances, ethnicity, gender, race, religion, gender identity, and sexual orientation. We believe that varied backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives help to generate better ideas to solve the complex problems of an increasingly diverse world. We actively recruit diverse board members to ensure that different perspectives are considered at the decision making level. We also have a committee to help us think in a more focused way about how we advance diversity and inclusion across the work we do. Diversity awareness and practice is integrated throughout our written and oral exam processes. ABCN also promotes board certification in under-represented populations through our commitment to nominating individuals for relevant awards/grants. We believe that diversity leads to excellence and supports our mission to provide culturally competent neuropsychological services to our communities.

Welcome again, and please feel free to contact us if you have further questions. Your interest and support of quality standards for professional practice in Clinical Neuropsychology is much appreciated.
